Careers
In ACS! we believe that a sense of the future is a great motivator for young people struggling to get an education, especially in a culture where your mobile phone is a much more important status symbol than the mark you got in Physics.
We feel that one reason African students under-achieve is because they lack role models to point the way towards interesting, meaningful and reasonably well paid careers. To be sure, kids can get careers advice and information from school and Connexions. But in ACS! we believe that careers are more likely to come alive for African kids when they get the information from the horse’s mouth – in other words, from fellow Africans who are making a success of their own lives.
The running of the Careers programme will be run by parent volunteers. ACS! parents with interesting careers are a basic resource for the workshops.
The Careers Manager is currently building up a data base of African professionals from the wider community to participate in the programme.
If YOU have an interesting career, you could do something wonderful for our young Africans. All we need from you is a couple of hours on a single Saturday of your choice.
We would love to hear from you.
